褪黑素（Melatonin），又称褪黑激素、松果体素或美拉托宁，化学名是N-乙酰基-5甲氧基色胺，是一种在动物、植物、真菌和细菌中皆有发现的吲哚杂环类化合物。褪黑素在人体内由大脑腺体——松果体合成，其分泌具有明显的昼夜节律，白天分泌受抑制，晚上分泌活跃，最终在肝脏中代谢，并随着年龄的增加体内褪黑素水平逐渐降低。褪黑素产品在中国大陆为保健食品（安全食用量为1～3mg/日），在美国和加拿大是非处方药，不是安眠药（处方药），也不能使人皮肤变白，只能用来帮助入睡和治疗睡眠障碍。适合于工作时间不规律的人群和老年人适量服用，但不适合于青少年、孕妇和肾炎患者这三类人群服用。褪黑素产品专利持有者、美国马萨诸塞工业大学的乌特曼博士认为，褪黑素有着明显的抑制生殖机能作用，长期服用剂量太高会导致女性不孕，男性生理欲望降低。
